As the hit series Scandal continues to show us, despite the increasing rate of interracial marriage within the United States, interracial relationships are still frequently represented as dirty little secrets -- relationships to be hidden rather than shown with pride.
This 50th anniversary reminds me that in the David-and-Goliath-like battle that pitted Martin Luther King, Jr., school children and the best of the Civil Rights movement against the Ku Klux Klan and white racists -- active nonviolence can transform anything.
Our overincarceration epidemic has a massive and disproportionate impact on people of color. While communities of color suffer, the for-profit prison companies benefit.
Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin's repeated and dragged-out heckling of President Obama during his drone policy speech is simply the latest in a disgusting and damaging repeat act that has become almost ritual.
Media TakeOut is one of the most visited urban websites out there. It truly makes for a fun read about people who we love and are entertained by -- Media TakeOut shows us that just because they might be rich it doesn't mean they are above engaging in common foolery.
As a Native New Yorker, black daughter of an interracial marriage, and a... uh ...member(?) of an interracial marriage, I like to think I will raise my sons to feel as comfortable with diversity as my husband and I do.
I'm Black. After many years in the closet, after many years of breathing that stale air of self-denial, I can finally say this.
That morning I was taking the experiment to be approved by my teacher. My friends and I were outside, and they wanted to see how it worked. It did not react the way I expected it to. The lid popped off and smoke came out. If I could go back in time, I definitely wouldn't have done it.
If at 4 or 5 years old, you are getting a full weave to make you "cute," what will be your fix at 20? Nothing, it seems, is off-limits.
There is plenty of evidence to suggest that Mayor Rahm Emanuel's plan to shutter 50 (yes, 50) schools won't be good for Chicago's children, especially children of color.
Certainly, the name "Talented Tenth" carries baggage that may be insurmountable. It is rather difficult to redefine an infamous concept that has existed for nearly 120 years.
Kanye West is white America's worst nightmare. Because as much as one may attempt to dismiss him, you still have to turn on your regularly scheduled late night comedy program and stare him in the face. You can't avoid Kanye. He's made very sure of that.
If you see a black man smiling wider or poking out his chest more than usual this week, you can probably assume that his excitement was caused, at least in part, by the rousing address given by President Barack Obama at the Morehouse College commencement.
Our black males in high school are lacking proper support from parents, school, their communities and within. I've been working on those solutions. Dedicated my life to it.
If you're worried about the growing political strength of people of color, which is happening in large part because of a rapidly growing Latino population, then you might be motivated to do what you can to stop immigration reform.
I could not have imagined on Nov. 19, 1998, that within ten years, an African American would be elected president, and my ideological allies would respond with a rhetorical and political assault that made my own attacks on Judge Tauro look polite by comparison.
For me, having taught "Genealogies of Black LGBTQ/SGL Culture and Politics," the first LGTBQ studies course at Morehouse and only the second at a historically black college, this semester, President Obama's small utterance in his commencement address is groundbreaking.
Erykah Badu, in addition to being the reigning Queen of Soul, is a doula herself. And more than that, she's a strong role model for women who want to do it all, and then some.
From infants to seniors, the sequester affects at-risk Americans in every age bracket, and its cuts will harm families trying to put food on the table. Simply put, the sequester will erect road blocks along the pathways out of poverty.

By Trymaine Lee for The Huffington Post: Party insiders say the Democratic National Committee awards few contracts to companies controlled by racial minority groups, despite repeated pledges to increase business to such firms.
Instead, Democratic leaders claim progress by leaning on a broader definition of "minority contractors" that includes white women, the disabled and the gay community, according to internal memos and emails obtained by The Huffington Post and corroborated by those insiders.
The apparent dearth of contracts has fueled frustration and criticism, mostly from African American Democratic loyalists who accuse the party of failing to use its institutional finances to advance the cause of fair racial representation in the lucrative business of politics.
"There is no more loyal group of voters to the DNC than black people, and yet they have done nothing to ensure that that constituency is able to participate fully in the economic benefits of party business," said a DNC member who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
DNC leaders say while they take such concerns seriously, having launched a broad review of the committee's hiring practices, they have been and remain committed to diversity, as does the broader party.
"I appreciate that some folks may think the party has some serious challenges in this regard," said Patrick Gaspard, who was recently appointed the executive director of the DNC, "and one can, in all these kinds of instances, work hard to be more inclusive to make absolute certain and to make sure that the Democratic Party has as big a tent as possible.
"At the same time," he continued, "I say clearly, loudly and vociferously that there's a commitment that is ongoing. That commitment did not just begin today."

I don't trust writers who use the word, "negro". I is unacceptable and offensive. I don't trust people who continue to use the word and think it's ok. I don't use words that offend other groups. Please stop offending me. Group up.

When will blacks stop voting for a party that does not have our best interest? When will we wake up and see things as they actually are? We must learn to study the issues that are present and come up with a better solution to our problems. Since the democrats are not playing fair, then stop supporting them cart blanche! Study each candidate and learn what they believe and support, then make a intelligent decision to support or not to support.

I'm sure no one is surprised that 99% of politicians "are on the take" regardless of color. What I find interesting is the broadening of the definition as far as minority.
From the article: broader definition of "minority contractors" that includes white women, the disabled and the gay community.
The gay community? African Americans have to compete with the gay community. So much for Forty acres and a mule. Now anyone can undercut the African Americans... even the new comers....like illegal aliens, transvestites.......
When the Great Society idea was pushed in 1964 , it had African Americans in mind... not this.

Patrick Gaspard is clearly not a reputable person to lead the mantle on this discussion not simply because is Haitian, but at the Women Leadership Convention in 2010, he insulted a black-woman speaker who simply asked a generic question about the campaign strategy and he thought she was asking why Obama Administration doesn/t include African Americans in his Adminstration related to public policy issues.

Black women nearly kill white woman in a McDonald's while black employees do nothing and actually warn the black women to get out before police arrive:
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=ec0_1303444048
You won't see this story from any mainstream media, it took the Drudge Report to put it on the internet. These black on white violence stories are now DAILY occurrences. But the mainstream media will not ever mention the race of the aggressors, that would be "racist" and not politically correct.
Imagine if it had been whites beating a black woman, it would be national headlines with the DOJ intervening and investigating. But it being black on white violence, the blacks will get away scot free, when they should be charged with attempted murder. And I'm talking about the black employees as well, who should not only be fired but charged as criminal accessories to attempted murder. The black employees could have at least locked the doors to keep the black women in until police arrived, instead they helped them escape.
If blacks think this kind of injustice against whites can continue without major BLOWBACK coming you are sadly mistaken. As an imperiled white, I guarantee to you I carry a GUN everywhere and will be happy to use it to defend myself or other whites against black violence. It takes multiple stories like this one to get other whites and asians to also carry guns to protect themselves. They have to, the police won't protect white people, that would be "racist".
