From The New York Times: On March 29, 1961, the states completed ratification of the 23rd Amendment, which gave residents of the District of Columbia the right to vote in presidential elections. The anniversary is worth remembering, both because the amendment was an important step toward full political equality for citizens of the nation's capital and because it was frustratingly incomplete.

I do not know where you reside but I guarantee you if you did not have the right to vote you would be demonstrating in the street. Do you understand that DC residents pay taxes, go to war and probably fund some program that you are on. How dare you suggest that this is not an important issue. Get your head out of the sand and your backside.

To: Betty, Matt, and blkwrestl ...... that racist vermin only seeks to become relevant. It hides behind the relative-anonimity of a screen-name and hurls allegations that he/she/it feels actually mean something in the REAL world. Don't let it take up space here ! We know what's important to us. And our exchanges on these blogs will eventually unite us in seeking proactive measures to bring about change to our condition. Those who slither up out of the trailer-park to try to stir up crap are at the bottom of the tea-baggin lot. Therefore, I beseech you my Brethren: ignore the slime and watch it dis-appear !!!

The only citizen in Washington, D.C. who is denied a vote is their member in the House of Representatives and that person is only denied the right to vote in Congress issues.

Besides my need to state that Blake is nothing more than one STUPID FLAKE allow me opportunity to try and open the door on this issue and emphasize that DC residents are the only Americans not being allowed to have CONTROL OF OUR TAX REVENUE as well as not ACTIVELY REPRESENTED in Congress!
Politricks = Letting us elect a new Representative or Senator will not solve the entire issue and can easily be just as comical as spending billions of dollars since the 1970's and suddenly allowing us to elect a Mayor and City Council - The joke is that they are only able to compose and send annual budget proposals to Congress for their approval!
I have faith that President Obama will exercise his skill as a Professor of Constitutional Law and impressively address and help begin to responsibly address the social, economic and political oppression that for too long has been expressed on the residents of the capital city of these "United States of America".
