From The Root - Shortly after he ousted a guy named Corn Pop for breaking the rules at the all-black pool, Joe Biden considered calling the police to escort him to his car once his shift ended.
Corn Pop belonged to a gang known as the Romans, and Biden, the lone white lifeguard at Prices Run--one of the few public pools in Wilmington, Del., open to non-whites during the 1960s--made fun of the man's pomade-slathered hair before kicking him out.
Word from the black lifeguards was that Corn Pop, who took his coiffure pretty seriously, would be waiting outside with a straight razor, ready to fight. Calling the cops was a no-no, Biden was warned, unless he planned to never return to the pool.
Biden, then a 19-year-old college student, didn't take long to deliberate. He made his way to one of the back rooms and emerged with a 6-foot-long piece of chain wrapped around his arm. He knew what he had to do.

Cornpop! Lol!
Biden has gone through a lot in life. Losing is first wife and 1 year-old daughter in a car crash. That's a hard thing to continue living through. So, black pass (I hate that term, being that I am African American) or not, he paid his dues in life to be where he is and to be able to stand. I like his personality, personally. He seems genuine.

To the owner(s) of BV:
Who's minding the store? Who's in charge?
This is one of the stupidest and most unprofessional stories that I have ever read. For a media outlet on a national scale, this story is truly substandard.
Why was the author of the piece even allowed to present this silly azz story? It's just stupid on all levels and for the readers and registered members of this site it displays (1) the level of journalistic ability and mental process, sheer ignorance and wasted space on the part of the author (besides the story being useless, it's not even complete) and (2) an absolute waste of time and energy for the reader and when things like this happens, the blame sits squarely on the person who owns the site or that person who has been placed in charge: the person who manages, edits, approves and makes the final decision for publication on stories like this for release and that person (along with the author) should be officially reprimanded for (1) their lack of oversight with this article or (2) the laziness of doing the job and (3) total ineptness of allowing this article for approval to be released.
It seems to me that the person(s) in charge needs to "stop enjoying the perks of ownership & being in charge" and do the jobs that they are being paid to do: more closer supervision of its writers, have effective staff meetings and address things such as this and implement some sort of periodic quarterly, semi-annual or annual, mandatory in-house or outside agency counseling or training to be implemented to ensure that personnel are trained to identify and/or avoid shameful displays of journalism such as this story.
BV, get your act together. This article embarrasses you and embarrasses me as a registered member. Many readers and visitors here are professionals in their occupations and can spot laziness, ineptness, unprofessionalism and lack of management/oversight/supervision the very minute they witness it, see it or read it.

Joe Biden has always been one of my favorite senators, next to Edward Kennedy. He has been outspoken and firm in his beliefs. I don't know why this particular article came up, but as an African-American senior. This man is a person of character and he does not need a "black pass". He has earned the right to be respected. Joe Biden has paid dues to get where he is. I cannot help but admire his courage under fire. Life fired some shots at him, but through it all he maintained his family as well as his personal integerty.
