The economic outlook might look grim for many of us, but if you're an entrepreneur like Devin James, Sr., this is a perfect time to spend money and buy or team up with other companies.
James, the founder and president of The Devin James Group, recently formed an alliance with Eden's Gate Cigars to lead their brand management which includes a nice profit split with the Devin James Group.
The Memphis, Tenn., native is 26 and lives and works out of St. Louis. He's in charge of directing the marketing, advertising, public relations, product placement and event initiatives for the cigar brand. The first campaign is called "Enjoy Success, Exhale With Style."
"There are very few African-Americans in the tobacco business. This can open lots of doors," he said.
And despite heightened health concerns over the dangers of smoking, puffing on a cigar has continually got a pass and flown under the radar of ridicule as a classy pastime.
"Cigars, it's a status symbol and they have always been a class symbol. It's not a $5 pack of cigarettes. It's an all natural product. I've found that this product goes well with marketing jewlery and luxury cars. It projects a certain status," James says.
When James started a one-man marketing company in 2004, he quickly found that his clients needed a lot more than his expertise as a graphic designer.
"They didn't want to hire anyone else though. It forced me to turn my small company into a small ad agency," he said. "I created a solid team to pull off things I needed for my clients, brand advertising and marketing and consulting.
The cigar business is not the only one this cigar aficionado's group is investing in. Devin James Group also owns Auto Hood Media, a product that might replace tradition car sticker art advertising. The car hood advertisements, like the Obama one below, uses a breathable fabric that installs in minutes and removes in seconds.

Congratulations to Mr. James for his endeavors. As an unknown personality it is very hard to "breakthrough." I have written an adventure/romance novel (www.Riskingparadise.com.)and as an unknown author it is very hard. Best wishes Devin in all you do.

"It's an all natural product," declared Devin James, Sr. Sounds to me like another tobacco executive trying to bamboozle the public. Cigars have similar cancer causing agents like cigarettes and smoking them can lead to cancer, emphysema and other serious lung infections. The second hand smoke from cigars is also deadly. I would like to see a brother succeed in his endeavors, but not when he comes as a wolf in sheep's clothing trying to pass off an instrument of death as a status symbol. Unfortunately, some people will say anything to enrich themselves at the expense of others. We have to know better and teach people about the harmful effects of these drugs; indeed, no longer shall they (cigars) "fly under the radar."

True, Cigars do cause cancer ! I am glad that he took a step to be an entreprenuer and has another business with the car ads and all. I have all natural smoke products on my website that contains no tobacco at all and is TRULY all natural. It is called shisha. Some shisha has tobacco, but the kind I carry does not. It is a traditional smoke of our ancestry and it is really big in Africa (Morrocan and Egyptian preferebly) and the middle east. It is best smoked in a hookah (a water type pipe) I have them on my website also for sale. This is much healthier way to enjoy your smoke. But like I said before, hats off to this young man. Let's congratulate him for at least stepping into the world of business as a black man.

I don't know how James can classify a cigar as a status symbol when aren't blunts in the hood weed and Philly's rolled together!

I do not smoke and i think it is bad for health reason, but i have recently been seriously thinking about investing in cigar products because when I go to the grocery store, 3 out of every 5 customers are buying cigars to make blunts. If people are going to make somebody rich, it might as well be me.
