I HAD such respect for McCain prior to this eletion. I am SO disapointed. He lied, then he Lied, then he LIED, the he LIED!!!!!. He did not suspend his campaign, He did not rush to DC, Did not keep a scheduled appointment with Letterman - when he was relatively down the street, he has time for CBS (Or maybe for Katie!) but not for the appoitment he had with the American People. As if 2 hours without his mere presence is going to cause the economy to get worse! AND another thing, this is the second time he pulled the "I don't want to debate thing". He makes up excuses when he does not like the odds I think. A POW and Military office born into privaledge and married into massive wealth should be willing and able to stand up both before his peers and his countrymen. Uggg, I had such respect for McCain and now. I know some people don't care about this kind of stunt. But if he would lie to Lettermen about his reason for cancelling...a relatively unimportant thing compaired to the economy, what else would he lie about. Most of the negative stuff about Obama is contrived to scare us because Obama is different or new. Well given what I can see and now know about the "straight talker" which is that he straight up lies - I think this year - I will bypass the thew few Repulicans I voted for in the past mid-term elections...and go for the new guy...at least he is a Magna Cum Laude Harvard Law Graduate, his intelligence can make up for McCain's experience telling lies.

Obama came of the gates swinging! He was eloquent, knowledgeable, precise and focused as a laser!
John McCain, well how much time do you have?
The geezer was rude, arrogant(he refused to look at Obama),DUMB as a rock and very annoying. You can tell he has the same handlers as sarah Palin, because for the most part their knowledge is very limited, so the strategy is to bullsh!t through the stuff they don’t know (which is a lot). They ramble, babble and get incoherent. Sometimes I got so dizzy I couldn’t remember what the hell the question was!
What was that heavy breathing towards the end? Was he snoring? It was past his time! We also know he did a lot of memorizing all those foreign leaders! He was probably exhausted. Who gives a sh!t if you can spit all those foereign leaders names out, or if you have been to Afghanistan? You’re still DUMB! That also means you have bad judgement. HELLO?

McCain did very well tongit. He seemed knowledgeable - it did bother me a bit that he was recultant to look at Obama, but he did very well. I decided after watching Letterman that I know enough not to trust McCaiin to "Talk Straight". For me, the announcement to suspend the debates was an insult to the American Citizens to blow off a mere 2 hours cricial to the issues. I admit however, he performed very well tonight. It was not well enough for me however. If he lies about the reason he can not make a show, he would like about anything.

I am a die hard Democrat and an avid supporter of Obama..however I think he flauntered during this debate. He could have done a much better job of getting his point across while making sure his opponent looks like the liar he is. I did not enjoy Obama agreeing with anything McCain had to say. I just feel like Obama was too passive tonight.

There has always been something about Obama and it appears that he has spent a lot of time in his life in la..la..mode. He's not a jabber, straight for the jugular, but still be civil...be assertive, not aggressive. Then his Mr. Nice Guy always comes out...I agree with John, John and I agree....PLEASE! NEVER SAY IT EVEN IF YOU DO! By using McCain's first name, he is trying to suttly seem "friendly" and not hostile. However, this is a professional debate and McCain kept him at a distance and the excahange impersonal by referring to him as Senator Obama. He gave McCain points on a silver platter. If he is this way in the debates, how will he be as president. We need someone tough as nails, cunning like a fox and as least as cold and calculating as John McCain!

Karen, I totally agree with you! He should get adversarial.
Why are there two blog for the same topic? Jeff, Brendan's undermining you, or you do not talk to each other? Keep that to yourselves and keep it professional, please! (Head roll)LOL!

Karen, I would have to agree with you on most points. Obama was far better tonight than I had seen him in prior debates...but he still need to correct a couple of things. 1 is the statement "I think...I would like to know what your are committed to. He does not call out McCains lies as clearly as he should. He missed key points there. For those of us who are thinkers and see through the lies McCain has told and continues to tell (Letterman the clearest example on tape) then Obama will win. The issue is, as some unidentified blogger noted is that the average American reads at an 8th grade lever. Critical thinking skills have probably not been developed for anyone in that arena...no to say they are dumb...but they are less likely to research and connect the dots or to break away from past conformity.
