Happy Tuesday,I want to thank everyone who has checked in. I am a believer in what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I titled my introduction to this blog Who Am I because I wanted to stress the point that I am more than just a hip hop artist.
When I started out and still today, it was evident that this was a man's world. Making the transition into businesses outside of hip hop is not an easy transition, especially for a female.
This is why I'm so excited about all of the accomplishments Queen Latifah has made.
I've read all of your comments and noticed that someone wanted to know "Who was Yo Yo to write a Black Music Month blog?" and "What did Yo Yo have to say?" I didn't take offense. I can take a punch, even fall down.
But guess what? I'm going to get back up.I'm looking at the presidential campaign and am proud, watching democratic party nominee Barack Obama. You hear me. Democratic Party Nominee.
He got this.
I'm thinking about how dominant hip hop has been and the influence it has on American culture. How it has influenced the language and style of dress. But look at Barack. He's another young Black man who is having an impact on the country without putting an emphasis on the bling.
Without his pants sagging.
And he connected with the young voters. He has brought first time voters under 35 to the
polls. We have a face that speaks the language that the young majority understands.
When I speak about making a transition during Black Music Month, go ahead and ask who I am.
When I speak about all of these things, I am talking about politics. It's obvious that I am an Obama supporter.
You have to consider that for all of those who felt their only options for success were to be an entertainer or athlete, now they have Obama to look at. Their aspirations can transcend entertainment.
Obama is great to watch because his plight has been hard.
He is a Black man showing the world that he's not afraid to protect and respect his black woman.
Remember when the media was attacking his wife Michelle for saying that for the first time she was proud of her country?
Remember how he stood up and told the press not to drag his wife into this? I was happy too when Jay-Z and Beyonce finally got married. But can you see the message Obama is sending?
He's representing Chicago. He comes under the spiritual guidance of Reverend Jeremiah Wright.
Wright came after Obama hard. He tried to knock Obama out of the race.
And even though his controversial viewpoints hurt Obama's campaign, it didn't stop him from getting the
nomination.
Really, it doesn't bother me when people don't see where I'm going because I'm fine knowing that I know my destiny. I know how much it takes to succeed as a woman. So when you ask, 'How dare Yo Yo have the
audacity to speak,' it only shows a lack of respect for the history of hip-hop.
Call me a one hit wonder.
Say you only remember the 'Black Pearl' album.
But I have helped pave the way. I have used my status to help draw crowds for politicians. I have used my experience to teach kids from my amateur how to write lyrics, and I've been blessed to get a second wind
whether it's via 'Miss Rap Supreme,' being a radio personality or co-founding the Let Your Light Shine Youth Foundation with MC Lyte.
I'm a young entrepreneur on a mission.
I'm always politicin', ass kickin' and regulating game and willing to use my status to help promote others.
Call it Chapter 2 of my Supreme Journey, and I'm rolling fearless.
Thanks for joining me and I enjoy reading your comments.
Please keep them coming.

YoYo! Well spoken!! You are a part of Hip Hop and anybody that doesn't know that needs to ask themselves if they are really a Hip Hop fan. You came out with the lyrical genious Ice Cube who was part of the great group NWA, now anybody associated with them two can't be fluke. But not only that, YOU made a name for yourself. Always big-uppin the IBWC. You are right, you helped pave the way for the Remy Ma's, the Lil' Kim's, the Foxy's. At at time in Hip Hop when there was only really 3 dope females, You, Lyte and Latifah. You battled with Shante', but she was on Miss Rap Supreme, so I take it the beef was just on wax. Keep doing your thing. I love seeing the folks I rolled with in Hip Hop when I was young STILL doin it way big like they never left. Oh and you still look good. So keep doin it! :)

Hey, Yo-Yo you go girl! I have always been a fan of your music and still a fan today. I had all of your Cd's, but with children, well you know how that goes. I'm going to purchase your Cd's again, because you are HOT! You are the only reason why I watch "Miss rap supreme" I love you and my "guy" Ice-Cube in the Bonnie&Clyde theme part 1&2. Keep bringing to us real, and don't let the haters bring you down.
By the way, I can I have a picture of you with your hair braided in your "Black Pearl" video? I had that style before and loved it, but I need a picture to show the stylist. From one Black Queen to another, you keep rising and hold your head up my Beautiful Black Sister, and always remember what one of your lyrics said:
"I been on the low for a while, but now
It's time to rise up, so open your eyes up
And recognise the real, that's all up in your grill
Yo Yo gots the flow, y'all people know the deal"
You are my sister in spirit.

"Key-LoLo" (lol),
You have really been one of the many great positives of hip hop music and african american women as well. You truly emulate the strength and beauty of sistas nationwide. The Bible says that a woman's beauty comes from within and the things that she do. Well I can tell you, just by looking at the great accomplishments you've acheived and looking at your recent photos, you just have it goin on all the way around! Much love to you Yo, and keep on "IBW wit cha crew" (that was my favorite)
