WHY BLACK MEN LOVE WHITE WOMEN is the title of the first book launched under the Karen Hunter Publishing imprint of Simon and Schuster. You know Karen Hunter. Go-to collaborator. Coauthor of CONFESSIONS OF A VIDEO VIXEN and most recently, coauthor of Terry McMillan's ex-husband's novel, BALANCING ACT (yes McMillan called Karen out for being a part of that publishing drama, but later apologized for placing so much blame on Hunter).Anyway, after racking up a ton of bestsellers as a coauthor and collaborator, Hunter decided to start publishing her own books.
I had the opportunity to talk with her about her new venture and she says it is her hope that the books she will publish will be entertaining, enlightening, and controversial.
This brings us back to WHY BLACK MEN LOVE WHITE WOMEN, which was originally self-published by the author Rajen Persaud. Hunter was clear that folks, particularly black women, will be surprised by the book and that we shouldn't let the title discourage us from checking it out.I don't have the book as of yet, still waiting on my review copy. But I did read this excerpt, which I invite you to do. I was impressed to see Persaud offer a historical context. So I may add this to the reading list after all. Here's more info about the book from the publisher's website:
Challenging every one of our preconceptions about mixed-race relationships, Rajen Persaud's commentary lights up a topic that has only deepened in intensity and relevance in the decades since Sidney Poitier asked the world "Guess who's coming to dinner?" The answers, so deeply ingrained in our fabric as a nation and even grounded in our past, force us to look at ourselves and our culture with new eyes while pondering matters of
CELEBRITY: From Michael Jordan to Bryant Gumbel to Tiger Woods, high-profile affairs and marriages with no shortage of controversy.
SEX: Are black men choosing white women -- or rejecting black women?
RACE: How white male insecurity is the key to understanding racism.
RELATIONSHIPS: Is it more than love that brings the races together?
POLITICS: How fear is used to gain power, from sexual politics to global war.
MEDIA: How movies and television keep black men running to white women.
We can start here: Do black men love white women?

Does this book tell us anything we haven't already heard a million times over the last 30 years about why black men date and marry white women? If anyone has read it, can you offer a thought on that?

I think the better question is, "Why should we give a fuck?" You shouldn't be expected to marry within your own race, unless you like that pre-civil rights movement way of thinking.

I am a very successful and attractive black woman who doesn't give a dam about a white woman. The book, in my opinion, is another way to lower the self-esteem of black women all over. We must have pride in who we are and stand up for ourselves. If a black man chooses a white woman, then so what. We as black women will eventually rise because if we show any insecurity, we lose the game. I will also be writing a book for black women, look for it soon. Ann

Truth be told, Black men love neither Black nor white women. It makes a Black man feel that he has arrived. He many times feels that historically and presently, the white man has dominated and enslaved himand now I can have your women. It makes a Black man feel the ultimate of success. Poor thing!! It's like one up on the white man. You know the post traumatic slave syndrome..I am there. Nothing more...nothjing less. White women historically have been the forbidden fruit and screwed-up Black men fall into their trap. Their trap being mere stupidity. Every white woman that I know that has or is in a relationship with a Black man is being treated worse than a Black woman is treated. We simply will not tolerate the Black man's behavior but the dumb white women will and for whatever reason she stays in the relationship. The old adage "Once you go Black you never go back", is true in most cases. They are demanding, controlling, pay the cost of alot of expenditures including housing and will do just about anything the brother asks. That includes taking care of the Black man's children. They will do just about anytjhing to get thae man. A friend of mine did a long term national study on the topic and most of the brothers she surveyed admitted that they would really rather have a sister, but they knew a sister would "never" do what these dumb chicks would do, this is what they needed at the time, so they wait it out. Additionally, these brothers often times have sisters on the side. My take on the matter, white women can have all the brothers who are interested in them. Sisters should not wait around for a brother. There are many white men and other men who would love to be with a Black woman. I encounter them on a daily basis and they are never shy. Sisters a bit of advice....move on... who cares if Black men want white women. I certainly don't. I have dated white men, love the difference, and have been treated with the utmost respect!!!!!!!!!!! Sisters...don't consider it an issue, just move on:)

White women take a whole lot more because they can not
find white men. White men say white women are too much into the feminists movement and their butts are too flat. Black women seek elsewhere.

Yo, I don't love White women. I love Black women, love them, love them, love them. I love Black women who are not afraid of thier beautiful black skin and kinky hair. If you are a black man and you don't love Black women, you are depriving yourself of the Gods gift to humanity.
