Greetings, BV. I feel like I've been away for a minute but I'm back and I've got a great hair product for you. To find out what I can't live without (formerly known as The Black Hair Care Product of the Week) click the link below.
Labor Day can only mean one thing: fall is right around the corner. Because summer is quickly coming to a close I've spent the last two weeks allowing my hair to dry under the sun thanks to a method called a 'wash and go.' A wash and go is a simple method whereby I wash my hair with a good, rich shampoo, apply conditioner and finish it off with a product to keep my tresses nice and moist throughout the day.
For the latter, I scoop up some pudding. I'm not talking about the Bill Cosby type but the grape-bubble gum smelling purple concoction by hair manufacturer Miss Jessie. It's called Curly Pudding and it's a great concoction for both natural and texturized heads.
If you're like me you love to appreciate your natural curls every now and then and boycott heat from the curling iron. However, a couple of hours later my hair has dried up like a cactus and my ends are frizzy and frayed. I've instantly gone from having a cute and curly 'do like Rachel True to this.
This is why I love Curly Pudding. I section my drenched wet hair into four parts and apply the cream from root to end. I use a wide-tooth comb to ensure it's evenly applied and allow my hair to air dry. If I'm really pressed for time I whip out the dryer, with the setting on warm. From daytime to night fall I've got soft ringlets.
I will share this caution, however. Put too much Curly Pudding in your hair and you may be left with a white residue. I discovered this unfortunately on my way to church yesterday. Also, relaxed heads with little or no curl pattern may not see the best results.
If you've got Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding -- or any of her other products -- in your closet let me know how you liked it. I'm always curious to hear your thoughts.
Where to Buy It
I purchased my jar of Curly Pudding from Miss Jessie's web site but I also located it on Urban Bella and Naturally Curly. I purchased the 16 oz. jar and it has lasted for quite some time. Keep in mind I wear my hair dry and straight 80% of the time. If you go curly throughout the week or have long hair (bra-strap length) you may want to upgrade. However, I would recommend starting off slow with the 2 oz. jar in case you're not impressed.
While you're on Miss Jessie's web site, check out some amazing heads of hair in their photo section.

HELP! Love to set my relaxed hair with a medium size curler and let the curls fall. My problem is that by day two my hair is fuzzy. Any tips?

Jacke,
I WAS having the same issues as you with the frizz and fuzz but I pin curl the curls at night and sleep with a satin bonnet. Every 2 nights or so I spray my hair with an oil sheen LIGHTLY and then pin curl. This has really helped in the frizz department. Hope that helps you hon!

kinky-curly is a better product. It dries faster and there are no white flakes.

The pudding is great the first two days after applying it. After that, my hair is so dried out!!! Their buttercream is too greasy and heavy.
Start with a small one to make sure you like it.
