O, You've Come a Long Way!

After all the talk about weaves, Dominican salons, and power products I thought I'd try something just a little Oprah has evolved style-wisedifferent. This week, I'm kicking off the Best Tressed Award.

This award goes to a celebrity (and hopefully in the near future a BV reader) who has evolved and up'd their hair game. Our favorite daytime diva is the lucky recipient this time around.

Oprah has gone through many phases and fans have been there to witness them all. She's had the pleasure -- and pain -- of transforming in front of the camera for all to see. Fans have loved her at every size, through every clothing fad, and every hairstyle. While Oprah won the hearts of many fans early in her career, there's no doubt the daytime diva has come a long way. Let's not forget when she got her first big break on 'AM America' viewers were greeted with a smile, fuchsia painted cheeks, the signature 80s shoulder pads and a short curly fro.

A slimmer Oprah goes for a classic short cutBy the time she took the 'Oprah Winfrey Show' into syndication in 1984 we had pal and beautician Andre Walker to thank for her straighter and grander tresses. Rent her '20th Anniversary Celebration' and you can witness first-hand how the mogul's hair got bigger as her pockets got fatter. My favorite hairstyle came a few years later when a slimmer Oprah pounced on the stage with pounds of bagged fat to show her audience how much weight she had lost. While Oprah was triumphant over her weight loss, I was more thankful that Andre had given her one of her best hair days. Her short, permed tresses and long bangs is a staple style among black women.

Most recently, Oprah has been experimenting more and more with her tresses. She braided it up before she headed on the road with best friend Gayle, then softened it up with spiral curls at the launch of her school in South Africa. Now it looks like the 53-year-old powerhouse has dusted off the flat iron because she's gone back to her straighter mane, and added a 50s flip to her 'do.

I know everyone has their favorite Oprah. There are so many. Drop it off in the comments section then hear the talk show diva share her hair disaster. This is worse than my salon horror story.
