Why is that anyone who has been involved in a scandal gets to write a book?Terry McMillan's ex-husband Jonathan Plummer's novel drops next month. Yes it's a novel, not a memoir or tell-all.
So because he screwed over Terry McMillan, he gets to be a novelist? Well not exactly, the novel is co-written (read: all-written) by Karen Hunter, who has been the co-author on such titles as PIMPOLOGY and CONFESSIONS OF A VIDEO VIXEN.
But to add insult to injury, the book is called BALANCING ACT (similar to the title of Terry's DISAPPEARING ACTS). If I was Terry, that would push me over the edge.
But you know who should really be mad? All the real writers who have written a great book that they can't get published. Those folks should be IRATE that Plummer landed a book deal.
Here's how his publisher Simon & Schuster describes the book:
Jonathan Plummer made headlines when New York Times bestselling author Terry McMillan -- whose novel How Stella Got Her Groove Back is based on their romance -- filed for divorce, claiming that Plummer hid his homosexuality in order to marry her for her money and gain U.S. citizenship. Now, Plummer delivers a sexy and satisfying novel as deliciously racy as the life he lived.
Justin Blakeman is living an ordinary life in Jamaica, when vacationing Tasha Reynolds spots him selling sugar cane on the street. He, of course, has no idea that her modeling agency is fast becoming the hottest in the business. He plans to live the island life set out for him, stepping up to head the family sugar cane enterprise in time.
In the ruthless modeling world, Tasha is a great white shark with an uncanny knack for finding blazing new talent in unusual places. She always gets what she wants and she wants Justin -- whose hazel-green eyes, offset by dark chocolate skin, make her palms sweat, a sign that she is on to something. His perfect body and defiant attitude will make him a mega star.
But soon, a relationship that began as strictly business crosses the line into a complex game of sexual desire and control. Their crazy, volatile bond -- littered with dark influences from their pasts, complicated by ambition, and fueled by insatiable passion -- is as combustible as relationships can get. And when Justin discovers a hidden hunger for a male model, the stakes are higher than ever.
Wow that sounds vaguely familiar. But what's really funny is Plummer's bio on his publisher's site: Jonathan Plummer is Terry McMillan's ex-husband. Balancing Act is his first novel.
He has no other accomplishments? Damn.

If I was Terry I would not be ashamed. We as black women allow ourselves to be used every day by men because we love them and think that they love us, or that they so fine you can't stop thinking about them until you get a piece; and just because Terry is successful and her name is recognized nationally does not mean that you she is an exception. Let him have his 10 minutes of fame because without her standing beside his side he is nothing other than a lying homosexual. Women beware because a man like that is a scavenger. However, his book will sell because he provides gossip and everybody loves gossip.

i like terry, disappearing acts was real good.i felt that waiting to exhale was an assault on the brothers. there were many sisters who mistook that book for a non fiction book, and thought of it as the gospel truth, lol. terry went to the island to get a man, maybe 'cause she felt there were no good ones in the states. she discovered it doesn't matter where, but who you are dealing with. p.s. terry, i am a brother and i am single, employed and educated. holla!

This serves her ass right. You don't just bring someone into your home, let alone marry him and bring him around
your child just because he may know how to put it down, and you think he's cute. She should have done her homework and not been so desperate.

I'm gonna purchase this one and my comments are coming from a gay man's perspective. If anyone watched the "Oprah show" when these two were on. Anyone can vouch for this interview. It was a hot mess right. Oprah out of all folks was beating up on Johnathan. Terry is foolish and did'nt care about this until now. Most women on go on vacations, don't take their vacations home with them. Terry basically did what she wanted to do. And use her money and power as influence to do so. (Shit) Terry isn't the most feminine woman on the planet (her dam self) There she be a book written about (DL) men and the women who love them. Open relationships are nothing new. This could have been a publicty stunt.
After the Oprah show the facts that were shown are. Terry and Johnathan are still messing around. And she is still supporting this man. And at the end of the show. Ms. Oprah mentions that she has bought the rights to one of her novels (interesting)
Love & happiness

Hmmm. Maybe it will be a good book. Well a bathroom book. I have books I only read in the bathroom. They don't require a lot of thinking and I can relax in the tub without thinking on any socially relevent literature. I think TM saw what she wanted to see and this guy went along for the ride$$$ She cana nd will probably do better. well that is when she moves on, which she hasn't from her interviews. I can relate. Not to the being married to a gay man thing but being with a jerk who decieves. Well whatever. That's my motto!
Be sure to vote for my little girl guys & girls. She oculd win $10,000 if we get enough votes!

Amen Blacklace, Amen. I felt compromised reading this article about that lying little sleaze-bag. I have no intention of reading his book. He is young enough to go back to school and get himself a decent education. How long does he think he can hang onto his unhealthy association with Terry McMillan and try make a dime? He was exposed as a user and a lair once the story broke. It is time for him to disappear off into the sunset.
