Why is that anyone who has been involved in a scandal gets to write a book?Terry McMillan's ex-husband Jonathan Plummer's novel drops next month. Yes it's a novel, not a memoir or tell-all.
So because he screwed over Terry McMillan, he gets to be a novelist? Well not exactly, the novel is co-written (read: all-written) by Karen Hunter, who has been the co-author on such titles as PIMPOLOGY and CONFESSIONS OF A VIDEO VIXEN.
But to add insult to injury, the book is called BALANCING ACT (similar to the title of Terry's DISAPPEARING ACTS). If I was Terry, that would push me over the edge.
But you know who should really be mad? All the real writers who have written a great book that they can't get published. Those folks should be IRATE that Plummer landed a book deal.
Here's how his publisher Simon & Schuster describes the book:
Jonathan Plummer made headlines when New York Times bestselling author Terry McMillan -- whose novel How Stella Got Her Groove Back is based on their romance -- filed for divorce, claiming that Plummer hid his homosexuality in order to marry her for her money and gain U.S. citizenship. Now, Plummer delivers a sexy and satisfying novel as deliciously racy as the life he lived.
Justin Blakeman is living an ordinary life in Jamaica, when vacationing Tasha Reynolds spots him selling sugar cane on the street. He, of course, has no idea that her modeling agency is fast becoming the hottest in the business. He plans to live the island life set out for him, stepping up to head the family sugar cane enterprise in time.
In the ruthless modeling world, Tasha is a great white shark with an uncanny knack for finding blazing new talent in unusual places. She always gets what she wants and she wants Justin -- whose hazel-green eyes, offset by dark chocolate skin, make her palms sweat, a sign that she is on to something. His perfect body and defiant attitude will make him a mega star.
But soon, a relationship that began as strictly business crosses the line into a complex game of sexual desire and control. Their crazy, volatile bond -- littered with dark influences from their pasts, complicated by ambition, and fueled by insatiable passion -- is as combustible as relationships can get. And when Justin discovers a hidden hunger for a male model, the stakes are higher than ever.
Wow that sounds vaguely familiar. But what's really funny is Plummer's bio on his publisher's site: Jonathan Plummer is Terry McMillan's ex-husband. Balancing Act is his first novel.
He has no other accomplishments? Damn.

This is what Terry has brought into her life. Stevie Wonder could see this man was GAY.
So we have to examine what was Terry going though, we must remember it take two.

Why would this book anger Terry M.? She's gotta be one of the only sistas on planet earth whose instinctive radar didn't detect that this brotha was gay. The first time I saw his picture in JET magazine I was surrounded by a number of women who all thought the same thing upon looking at him. He looked very feminine and thought that if he was straight he probably surprised alot of men on the down-low. If she's gonna get mad, it shouldn't be limited to her ex but mainly to herself.

Well, everyone gets their 15 minutes of fame. Strike while the iron is hot, that's what I say. After all, the brother does have to eat.

I AGREE WITH ROBBIE ROB. TERRY HAD TO KNOW THAT FOOL WAS GAY. HE WASN'T EVEN DOWN LOW ABOUT IT. HELL, SHE BECAME THE BREAD WINNER THOUGH OUT THE RELATIONSHIP. NOW HE'S WRITING ABOUT ALL OF THE DIRTY DETAILS DURING THERE MARRIAGE & HOW HIM & HIS MAN PLAYED HER. I KNOW SHE FEELS BAD. BUT SHE'S A GOOD WRITER & SHE CAN COME BACK STRONG. SUCCESS IS THE BEST REVENGE. HIS BOOK IS PROBABLY STUFF WE ALREADY HEARD ANYWAY. THE PUNK...

whatev...had dude been straight up in the first place........he would still be 'selling sugarcane'....(heelarious by the way).. and this book would not exist. he knew he was gay, yet he did not tell Terri because she was eating lobster, steak, and shrimp. (See Al Reynolds)...poor Star....poor Terri. we are always clairvoyant when it comes to others.....to ourselves? blind as a bat. I do not support 'down low' of any kind and these 'dudes' need to be honest....or be exposed.

It is sad that being on tv for awhile or having some drama that was publized can make you an author. When people with the talent to write have a hard time getting published, now that pisses me off. Don't we have enough racy books out now? When are going to get more books published that have a meaning or substance to them?
