Black Hair Care Product of the Week

Comments (165)

Product Pick of the WeekThe first product of the week was Salerm 21 out of Spain. It's one of my staple products because it's a superb leave-in, in my opinion. The second product of the week really appealed to a broader audience because Mizani is a great sealer for your ends and a wonderful moisturizer for natural and relaxed heads.

This week's product is more focused on those looking for thickness and eventually some growth. To find out what took this person from shoulder-length hair to beyond see my product pick after the jump.

When I finally removed my weave five years ago and decided to give my hair the opportunity to flourish I was inSurge Plus 14 Hair Revitalizer tears. My once thick hair was now limp and lifeless thanks to the weight of synthetic hair braided and sewn into my own. I wasn't ready to give up though.

I put my online sleuthing to the test and discovered a product called Plus 14 Hair Revitalizer made by Surge. Plus 14 is advertised as a chemical that promotes hair growth.

Now don't get carried away.

If you have four inches of hair don't expect to look like Rapunzel within a month. During the three months I used it, I noticed my hair became softer and I gained about three inches of hair. Keep in mind that I wore my relaxed hair wet and in a bun during this period so if you are relaxed and want to wear your hair straight this may not work for you. In addition, there's no telling how much my curling iron boycott contributed to my growth.

The instructions are simple. You just spray on your roots daily. Now based on what I read online some users did experience tingling sensation. I never did, but I also made sure I washed my hair daily (the instructions recommend washing every other day).

Overall, I was very satisfied with the product's results. The hard part is finding it. I live in the sticks so I had to drive into a metropolitan area and find a drug store that carried ethnic products. So far, I've been lucky to find it on shelves at CVS, Walgreen's and Shopper's Food Warehouse (a local grocer here on the east coast). Do a search online to see where it's carried near you. I'd also be curious to know where owners found their bottle.

If you've had experience – good or bad – with Surge Plus 14 don't be shy. Share with the group.
