I tried to find a way to tip-toe around this topic but it can't be avoided. Weaves have been a common hair accessory for some time in our community. However, at some point some celebrities got a little too carried away. Reality TV star turned music artist Schatar tops my list and Beyoncé and Foxy Brown are strong contenders for second place.
See the others who have taken weaves to new lengths and click the link below for more.
Let me begin by saying that I consider weaves to be just another accessory. It's a temporary means to
enhance beauty, draw attention, or try something new. I don't fault women for it. In fact, I had a weave for years and loved every hair swinging minute of it. I finally said good bye to Milky Way 1B after three years and decided to give my real hair a try but that's another story for another time. My point is, I am not anti-weave, I just wonder why so much?
In recent years, well done weaves have gotten more undetectable thanks to artists (see why I call them artists and check out these amazing before and afters here). No longer can you tell between the real and the fake. The game of detection has become harder. You used to be able to scan for a weave at the crown and work your way through the bangs where the real hair normally met the fake. It leaves me to wonder why people like Wendy Williams, Paris and Lil Kim are taking these tresses down to the floor and leaving no room for imagination. Not only have they gotten long but the thickness makes it very hard to believe a human being can actually survive under all that hair on a hot summer day. I feel for Beyonce who has to dance under that wig (even though it came in handy and provided a nice little cushion in
Now before you slam the comments in defense of your celebrity keep in mind that I know it's their job to look different, to take it to the next level and to not look like they got their weave done by Cookie but instead of opting for something that looks a bit more realistic like these ladies, some of these celebs are adding not one, not two, but sometimes ten packs of hair to their head.
I have a long list of violators but I want to know who you think is the worst. Vote then drop off a comment.

Schatar edges out Wendy Williams. Beyonce and Foxy have committed some weave crimes, but nothing of the magnitude of the first two. Not even close.

I think Beyonce weave looks fab.. but Schatar weave ia a complete mess... it looks like a mountain of weave on top of weave I wonder how she combs it.

I agree! It has gone overboard to the point where these ladies are looking like they should be on a stripper pole or in porn. What makes it worse, is that they don't just wear it onstage. They wear it in their personal lives, as well...the pool, the beach, vacation, the drugstore,etc... At least Janet Jackson, Halle and a few others take it off when the show is not on. But, Bey, Tyra, Kim, etc... has an obsession or self esteem dilemma of mammoth proportions. I also want to say that I wear weaves, wigs, braids on a regular basis because my hair has been thin, fragile and fine my entire life, and isvery hard to manage into a style or anything. So, for me to wear those is a public service (lol); not to mention, it is as needed as a prosthetic. But, it is a matter of balance and self control. The ladies you mentioned are starting to look like whack drag queens, and they are much too beautiful to go out like that.

Hello. Nia Long is wearing a weave the photo referenced and Halle started has worn weaves while growing out her hair and wore a wig during her last movie junket. Don't get it twisted. They all do it!

I've personally never worn a weave, but I notice that some celebrities who wear them, the edges of their hair is practically bald. Is this common? Is it because it's too tight? I've noticed it on Larissa, Vivica, and Golden Brooks to name a few. The lacefront wigs don't look that good either, because you can see where they try to blend the makeup into the lace on the forehead. I epsecially notice it on Tyra.

i wear a weave and it's beautiful i feel it doesnt matter how long these ladies wear their hair if they feel it makes them feel beautful or gets them the attention they want, leave em alone. Not everyone was born with that good Indian hair, i do agree with Lisa Schatar hair is a flatout mess!

What is good hair? I get so tired of hearing that statement, hair is hair. That's what's so wrong with black women now, they try to measure themselves up to the white standard of beauty by putting all that crap in their hair. I'm naturally loc'd and am going to stay that way forever. And yes my hair is down my back without a weave!
