'Take The Cake' Typical BET Programming

Comments (342)

BET's new campaign to roll out fresh, exciting and innovative content got off to an all too familiar start on Monday night.

On the wrong foot, of course.

'Take The Cake' is the network's first-ever game show and very well should be their last one they ever attempt in doing.

If you were familiar with the very short-lived game show called 'My GamesFever' on the MyNetworkTV stations, 'Take The Cake' has the same concept.

It's an interactive live game show where viewers can win cash prizes by texting in answers to a special number they see flashing on the screen.

Before you whip out your cell phone, just remember that for every text message you are sending in, they are probably slapping you with a 99 cent fee.

The hosts, Toccara, of 'America's Next Top Model' fame and comedian Joe Clair (From 'Rap City' to 'Take The Cake...ouch) do more damage to the show than good.Who knew Toccara was that bad in front of the camera?

I don't know how she is going to keep up that energy five nights a week.

(Before you blitz me with the "Stop picking on large women/Are you gay comments" could you at least watch the show first ... feel free to blast me after that.)

Overall, the show is a hot ass mess -- all the things that BET was trying to stay away from when they announced their new block of programming for 2008.

Just when you think BET is ready to turn the corner and be a network that provides legitimate programming to the African-American community, Reginald Hudlin, the man in charge of programming for the network, takes two steps back.

They continue to tease us with great programing like 'Meet The Faith,' so we all know it's possible for the network to put out quality programming.

This is one piece of cake that I will definitely pass on.
