'Dances From Tha Hood' Breaks It Down

So if you were flipping through the channels and happened to come across MTV at 8PM tonight, you got a glimpse of a new show called 'Dances From Tha Hood.'

Yes, 'Dances From Tha Hood.'

Think 'Soul Train' for today's hip-hop generation but the show teaches you step-by-step on how to do the latest dances.

Hosted by dancer/choreographer Tweetie, the South Bronx native might be best known for her an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show in mid-April (More on Oprah as a dancer tomorrow in an exclusive interview with Tweetie).

Tweetie (nee Lenaya Straker) was Oprah and Gayle's hip-hop dance instructor on the show.

The first episode, which is shot in a basement environment (think the 'Get Busy' video by Sean Paul), introduced three hot dances - - none of which I can do.

The 'Aunt Jackie' (Aunt who?), the 'Lip Gloss' (Lil' Mama is a cutie) and the 'Toe Wop,' which Chris Brown made popular in 'Gimme That.'

The show is very ... loud. Tweetie is very high-energy and after five minutes, I had to turn the volume down just a tad.

But if you are into the whole dance scene and have two left feet like myself, this is the show for you.
