Wal-Mart's annual shareholder meetings are like parties. This year they had J-Lo, American Idol Jordin Sparks (pictured) and comedian Sinbad perform, and Chris Gardner, the black man who inspired the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness", gave a speech. But the picture you won't find on Wal-Mar's PR site is of the group of wealthy, white shareholders who showed up to ask for a report on why most of Wal-Mart's stock options go to white executives when the bulk of the company's employees are minorities and women who work for low wages.
The group, Responsible Wealth, calls itself a "a national network of affluent Americans who are concerned about deepening economic inequality and advocate widespread prosperity." They say their concerned about Wal-Mart's stock options practices because those options, which can be cashed in for valuable shares of the company's stock, represents potential wealth for employees that could be used to fund everything from college educations to homes to emergency funds.
Wal-Mart, what say you?

I thought Walmart employees could buy stock in the company? And if the rich shareholders want to share then why don't they set up a fund with Walmart that for every dollar or whatever they make they give half back to a fund that is then distributed amongst the employees?

I notice that we (black folks) love Wal-Mart... Ambassador Andrew Young made a comment about how some of the “mom and pops stores in our community have been overcharging us selling us stale bread, bad meat and wilted vegetables. Then they make there money and moved to Florida. And then he goes on to say that he thinks they have ripped off our communities enough; first it was Jews, then it was Koreans and now its Arabs.” And I agree with him. The management issues that people is claiming, refusing to have Afro American in management position, or on an executive level we can (black folks) stop shopping there but we will not including myself.. One observation that I have notice is that the customer service is impeccable compare to Fred Meyer, Safeway, and Albertson. The people that work at these store act as if they are the owner of these stores and they can treat us any kind of a way. When I’m shopping at Wal-Mart I get a feeling that there management is bringing back that “Customer is always right” mentality. I would love to get more black folks in those positions but what can I do to help? Anyone have any suggestions?
