Rich shareholders want Wal-Mart to share the wealth

Wal-Mart's annual shareholder meetings are like parties. This year they had J-Lo, American Idol Jordin Sparks (pictured) and comedian Sinbad perform, and Chris Gardner, the black man who inspired the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness", gave a speech.

But the picture you won't find on Wal-Mar's PR site is of the group of wealthy, white shareholders who showed up to ask for a report on why most of Wal-Mart's stock options go to white executives when the bulk of the company's employees are minorities and women who work for low wages.

The group, Responsible Wealth, calls itself a "a national network of affluent Americans who are concerned about deepening economic inequality and advocate widespread prosperity." They say their concerned about Wal-Mart's stock options practices because those options, which can be cashed in for valuable shares of the company's stock, represents potential wealth for employees that could be used to fund everything from college educations to homes to emergency funds.

Wal-Mart, what say you?
