If you missed the NAACP Image Awards Friday night, you missed a great speech by Bono of U2. Here's the speech as Bono accepts the NAACP's Chairman Award. Just ignore the first 15 seconds of the video where you are forced to look at Pork Chops herself, Tyra Banks.

Surely, this is a trend toward unity of the highest magnitude. If there is one single thing that this current administration has done in Washington, it is this...those that have loathed these past several years have joined forces and will make the world work harder DESPITE having no government to help us! Bono and the NAACP are an unusual match - but we'll be seeing more of them as people awaken. Powerful stuff, Bono. The love in the room was palpable. I can't help but think that there is more of that coming as we decide to take back our country - and live globally - making sure that our brothers and sisters in Africa LIVE, and not die. The more we pay attention, the more love fills the world.

Sad that a white man can stand up with such emotion and passion about the people in Africa while black people especially the NAACP and others just standing by the side lines silent. Shame Shame Shame.

Word to Smokey Robinson and others. This is where your passion should be i.e about the plight of black people in Africa, not about some documentary on Dream girls for entertainment. Shame when someone like BONO can stand up with such passion while others idle by in silence. Black people need to put priority in order and stop stressing the trivial stuff.

This is humanity being humane. We have to all step up and have our voices heard.
What a shame that the message had to be precluded by the "porkchops" comment. Tyra Banks has a better body now than most American women. It's a true shame that some males---"not men" have to stoop to the level of name calling to degrade women in an effort to mask their own shortcomings.

I did not watch the Awards show, but I just saw a clip of Bono's speech. I was working out at the "Y" last nite and there was this poster with these words, "God measures a man, not by the size of his head but by the size of his heart". Bono, God has measure you, your heart is as big as they come. What a beautiful, beautiful speech! I love the last part, that GOD is with the poor, with the sick, etc. Bono you had me shouting and praising the LORD here at work this morning! I am going to do something to help in African and here in America. God Bless you Bono, for the work that you are doing, loving your fellow human brother and sister. And it's not a shame that a white man is standing up and doing something about the AIDs problem in Africa, the shame is that YOU are not doing something! God Bless You Bono, God Bless You!

Bono (along with Jim Kerr,Simple Minds)has always been an outspoken Christian and humanitarian. Now we as Black people need to do our part. Just as those great men and women did over 50 years ago at the start of the Civil Rights Movement.
