Number 10 in a little feature I like to call 'Grading the Gavels' is Judge Maria Lopez. Once again, another court show that might fly under your radar due to the saturation of court shows on television today. Lopez, of Cuban decent, is one of four Latino judges on television today. Her show has been in syndication for over a year now.
The one thing that kept Judge Maria Lopez from the last spot was for the simple fact that she has "Maria-isms."
With a deep and raspy voice that sounds like she has smoked two packs a day since birth, Lopez has developed a slew of "Maria-isms" that can be found on her website.
Can you imagine standing before the judge when they blurt out "You are one taco short of a combination plate!"
Or how about when you bring in your surprise witness when the judge yells "Take him out of here!"
How about when you are nervously trying to explain your side of the story when the judge cuts you off and says "Let me teach you a little Spanish: Vamos al grano. Get to the point!"
Now do you see the beauty in the "Maria-isms?"

I like Maria Lopez I call her the smoking Judge, but I do have a problem with her Bailiff Pete Rodriguez he is very rude. He's the reason I don't care for the show....

From what I gather is the only people that actually like her also happen to be of her race. Im sorry to see people only like someone becuz there also from Cuba or because they also speak spanish.
Does that mean it doesnt matter if there a really rotten person to the core, just becuz there the same race as you, you automatically like them.
That would be like saying, oh well Im German, and Hitler Was german, and even though he killed millions of People, Im going to like him. It makes no sense wutsoever, its like your CUbe's act like she can do wutever she wants to us "Gringo's" just so long as she is the same race.
Retarded logic like that is wut holds the emigre community back from being accepted into America.
Oh yea, she is just doing her job, she is doing a horrible job at it and is extremely unfair and biased.

maria lopez is a fraud.she dosent judge her cases based on law or whats right.she bases her judgments on eotion and siding with the females eventhough they lie in court the judge still rules in their favor.example,7-10-08 show,fur flies in the city,clearly the pliantif lied,was allowed to lie,and got away with it and won her case when by law it should have been dismissed or the defendant should have won the case because,she paid for a coat in sep. pk. up coat from layaway in oct. wore it for 3-4 months thrashing it. then thinks she can return it in feb.and get a new replacement or a refund. but her receipt says no refund no return.she lies to judge saying it was a gift,yet admits later to purchasing it herself.lier,case dissmissed!

Judge Maria Lopez resigned from the bench in Boston because of the inability to control her temper. While watching her show a few days ago, I became very angry because she allowed her bailiff to disrespect one of the plaintiffs. He actually snatched some paperwork out of the plaintiff's hands. When the plaintiff complained she didn't do anything to correct the bailiff or apologize. The bailiff actually had the audacity to say that he was tired of the plaintiff and that is why he snatched the papers out of his hands. The bailiff is the professional one and should act as such at all times. However, seeing Judge Maria Lopez' own inability to control her temper in the past, I don't expect much. Since then I have very rarely watched her show. She just reminds me of some old drunk anyway. I don't know that she really knows much about the law anyway. Where did they find her? Was she still on the bench in Boston when they offered her the job or had she already resigned after being investigated?

To the Spanish haters, Judge Lopez Spanish sayings are very relevant to cases if you bother to listen to the translation. The only thing I can't stand about Lopez is her dog cases when she clearly knows nothing about breeds, particularly Chihuahuas which I have. Other cases I learn a lot about the law, but I learn more from Millian whom I think is "the hottest judge on television". She's smart as a whip. Wish she'd use more Spanish though. If anyone thinks Judge Lopez is nasty, they've not seen Judge Judy. She humiliates litigants which is uncalled for. To the person who said Lopez should go back to her own country to learn respect, perhaps you should practice what you preach or go back to where you came from because unless you're an American Indian, you're like the rest of us an immigrant or forcefully brought here. Judges Mathis and Brown are second in nastiness to Judge Judy. My favorite is Judge Alex. He's one handsome Cuban!

This is by far the worst judge show ever! There is only one case that should take about 2 minutes to decide and no one cares who wins anyway. Instead, they give you "teasers" about what is coming up for a minute before each commercial. Then, after the commercial, they add about 2 words to the teaser to keep you on the edge of your seat before going off to another commercial. "You know what", I am sick of Maria-isms, her boring show, her liberal viewpoint and her less-than-insightful "analysis" after the case.
